Atlas Academy

From 20 August to 2 September 2012 the Atlas Ensemble organizes the fourth edition of the Atlas Academy at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. The Atlas Academy is a laboratory for the creation of new intercultural music. Online application is now open.

Composers and musicians can apply to develop a piece or experiment during the two weeks, working closely with musicians from all over the world in individual or group sessions. Additionally, the Atlas Academy offers seminars, concerts and live lectures/demonstrations of Asian and Middle Eastern instruments and musical traditions. The Atlas Academy culminates in the Alas Festival, which takes place from 31 August till 2 September in the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ and the conservatory.

During its next edition, the Atlas Academy will collaborate with the renowned Experimentalstudio from Freiburg.

The Atlas Ensemble is a unique chamber orchestra uniting brilliant musicians from China, Central Asia, the Near East and Europe. The ensemble presents an unheard soundworld of western and non-western instruments. The repertoire consists entirely of specially commissioned works.
