8th International Saxophone Week
March 13-17, 2012
In 2012, the Conservatorium van Amsterdam organizes and hosts the 8th International Saxophone Week Amsterdam. From March 13-17 the school will be the domain of the Classical saxophone: concerts, masterclasses, workshops, lectures and sponsor presentations. 'The classical saxophone in a changing musical climate', will be the theme of this edition of the ISWA.
One of the guests will be the French saxophonist Claude Delangle, regular guest of the ISWA, who will give a concert with the famous accordeonist Max Bonnay. Another guest from France will be Christian Wirth. Marcus Weiss and his accompanist Tobias Sabenberger will come from Switzerland and a special guest from Spain will be the saxophone-performer Pedrosaxo. Teachers from the Netherlands will be former CvA teacher Henk van Twillert, former CvA student Ties Mellema, as well as the present CvA teachers Arno Bornkamp and Willem van Merwijk. The latter will provide a special amateur workshop on Saturday, 17th of March, with a presentation during the final concert of the ISWA, that same evening in the Bernard Haitinkzaal. This final concert will also feature performances by the saxophone-class and an ensemble consisting of saxophones and percussion conducted by Peter Prommel.
The relation between body, mind and saxophone will also be focused on during the week: German saxophonist and Feldenkrais practitioner Simone Otto will give two workshops on this issue.
We hope to welcome many saxophonists from the Netherlands and abroad!
