Master in Urbanism
Urbanism is a discipline with a strong public objective. The discipline has developed from civil engineering and architecture to become one which plays a crucial role in environmental planning. There are points of close contact with such disciplines as economics, social sciences, traffic studies and environmental studies, as well as with the other design disciplines. Urbanism takes place at different scale levels, from street to region. On the one hand, the urbanist creates spatial conditions for current building assignments or for the organisation of the public domain. On the other hand, what is at stake is a design that is intended as a spatial exploration, such as a structural plan or a zoning plan. This brings the urbanist within the preserve of environmental planning and gives his work a strategic component. The emphasis is on becoming familiar with a wide range of design assignments, the acquisition of design resources, and above all the development of a personal design attitude and learning to take up a position in the professional debate.
