SNDO PRESENTS: Graduation Works 2017

Thursday 15 June 2017, 19.00 - 21.00 uur

The graduating year of SNDO presents their final works in June 2017 in Frascati Theater.

The 4th year students of the SNDO - School for New Dance Development graduate by creating two works next to writing a thesis and completing their internship. Public programs take place in venues outside the school providing the students with professional working conditions and the artistic context.
Parallel to the students individual creation processes runs the course Curating and Performance. For the final festival in June the students work with curator Susan Gibb. Being part of the ongoing trajectory spanning three study years, in this context they engage in a ‘hands on’ artist-curator dialogue and process. Since this year another partner enters the course - the graphic design department of the Gerrit Rietveld Academie. Students of both educations receive an applied design assignment to work together in developing visibility material for the graduation festival. Curating and Performance is commissioned by SNDO and conceived and led by Susan Gibb and Frederique Bergholtz, of If I Can´t Dance I Don’t Want To Be Part Of Your Revolution.

This year’s SNDO graduates are Juan Pablo Cámara, Chengbei Duan, Sigrid Stigsdatter Mathiassen, Mao Nakagawa, Estefano Romani, Tea Teearu and Andrea Zavala Folache.

The SNDO—School for New Dance Development (School voor Nieuwe Dansontwikkeling in Dutch)—offers a full time four-year professional education course leading to a bachelor's degree in Art – Choreography. The school was founded in 1975 as an attempt to find new directions for dance next to the existing forms and styles that dominated the field. After forty years, the SNDO remains inquisitive, open minded, and in the foreground of progressive developments in the fields of dance and performance. In the curriculum, the school establishes the conditions from which the creativity of the student can emerge. Reflection on the specific qualities of dance and performance as art forms is developed, and awareness of the body and the artistic implications of working with it take precedence.
