It's Just A Second

Nominated for the AHK Graduation Award 2012

It's Just A Second is a performance of speculative fiction, an exploration into a possible future trajectory. Imagine the tiny, almost non-existent piece of time between an atomic bomb being triggered to explode until the imminent explosion. What can anyone do in this moment, there is no going back, and there is an inevitability of the following disaster. This last fraction of time contains all the hope and fear of the inhabitants of this planet, it is both the dream of piece that nuclear weapons a purported to defend and the nightmare of the most extreme war we as humans could bring upon each other.

During the performance two dancers join hands endlessly until they are no longer able to. During the performance the dancers try to discover how they can continue to hold each other's hands so as not to separate. To the public it gets eventually more clear who the dancers are and what the performance is about. An illusion is created that something will happen in the second of separation and the denouement follows in the final second of the show.
