National Ballet Academy bachelor

The completion of the course for ballet dancers takes place during the abridged hbo phase of the Nationale Balletacademie. After completing the preliminary training and passing the havo or vwo final exam, dance techniques are perfected within the space of two years and students will gain their first professional experience during a practical internship with one of the major dance ensembles in Holland or abroad.

The practical study programme also has a theoretical component with subjects like dance history, musical theory, anatomy and injury prevention.

Hbo students have a considerable share in the annual school performances and sometimes participate in professional tours, as in 2009 during the performance series ‘Van Manen / Kylian voor jonge dansers!’, the anniversary programme staged to celebrate the 50 year existence of het Nederlands Danstheater.
