Subject package
As technician you have to be versatile, therefore your subject package has a wide scope. A sound general technical basis is necessary in order to keep abreast of developments in technique throughout the rest of your career. For that reason, subjects you take during the first two years include mathematics, mechanics, knowledge of materials, fabrication techniques and electronics. You need this technical basis to give form to your ideas; you do this using various drawing methods: sketching, technical drawing, CAD drawing and also by building maquettes.
Of course there are also many applied technical subjects, like lighting technique, audio technique, acoustics and basic theatre technique. Here theory and practice go hand-in-hand.
There are also a range of subjects that help to establish an artistic basis: art history, theatre history and dramaturgy, but also acting, investigating theatrical space and musical appreciation. Because this study programme prepares students for a future executive function, the subject package also devotes considerable attention to legal matters, upkeep of buildings, organization and management.
