His book, Classical Form: A Theory of Formal Functions for the Instrumental Music of Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven was the winner of the 1999 Wallace Berry Award of the Society for Music Theory and has gone on to become one of the most widely-recognized books in music theory today.
