“We honour an uncomplicated and energetic film, which uses the camera’s power uniquely and reflected, to tell a surprising story and reach the viewer emotionally with unexpected intensity. The film’s dramaturgy is refreshingly simple: Why, asks filmmaker Mea de Jong, her protagonist in front of the camera, do all women in my family since four generations, spend their lives without their children’s fathers? The filmmaker uses the camera consciously as a catalyst for conversations, which would not have happened otherwise. There she is brave enough to give up her position of power behind the camera and be the one being questioned. Within a few minutes, through greatly reduced film means, an amazingly large intimacy with the protagonist develops, without putting the viewer in the position of a voyeur.”
