We congratulate SNDO student Naomie Pieter with her nomination for the ECHO Award HBO 2018!

The ECHO Award generates positive attention for individual successes of students from the multicultural society. Naomie Pieter stands out for her important pioneering work, bridge builder qualities, active social involvement and leadership.

As an information officer at COC, Naomie provided information in schools about sexual diversity. She is also the founder of 'No Hate Speech Movement' and of 'Black Queer & Trans Resistance NL'. These are initiatives that focus on combating hate speech online and on social actions in the Netherlands. Naomie is also the initiator of Pride of Color Amsterdam. This is the first Bi-cultural committee within Amsterdam Pride that focuses on the programming and empowering of bi-cultural LGBTI +. She is also organizer of Pon De Pride which offers a safe space for black and colored LHBTI + to enjoy dancehall music. She is currently setting up a Black Queer Archive, so that the Netherlands has its own black Queer Archive and the stories that are missing to add or make visible.

The winners of the ECHO Award receive a fully covered summercourse at the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in 2019.

The award ceremony takes place on 20 September and is open to the public.
