Het Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA) bedankt het Nationaal Muziekinstrumentenfonds (NMF) van harte voor zijn hulp aan onze pianostudenten in de afgelopen periode. De sluiting van het gebouw tijdens de lockdown bracht vooral pianostudenten, die voor hun studie veelal afhankelijk zijn van de vleugels op het conservatorium, in de problemen. Het NMF zette onmiddellijk een spoedprocedure in gang om gedupeerde studenten van de Nederlandse conservatoria met geschikte woonruimte aan een vleugel in bruikleen te helpen. Dankzij deze snelle actie konden de pianisten toch studeren voor hun tentamens en examens en liep hun studie geen vertraging op.

Een groot aantal CvA-studenten is geholpen met deze noodprocedure; niet alleen kregen verschillende studenten een vleugel in bruikleen, enkelen kregen een fortepiano of klavecimbel en sommigen kregen een betere vleugel dan het instrument dat ze al in bruikleen hadden. Daarbij is voor een aantal nieuwe studenten de regel dat je twee jaar in Nederland moet wonen om in aanmerking te komen voor een instrument vervallen. Bovendien heeft het NMF een topvleugel beschikbaar gesteld voor de beste nieuwe masterstudent piano klassiek. 

Maar niet alleen thuis, ook op het conservatorium kunnen studenten gebruikmaken van bijzondere instrumenten uit de collectie van het NMF: het CvA heeft drie historische vleugels in bruikleen voor studie en lessen, waaronder een zeldzame originele fortepiano uit 1796.

Hieronder vertellen twee studenten wat deze actie voor hen heeft betekend: 

‘It's quite coincidental, and at the same time not, that I received a piano during these nerve-racking times. If I were to imagine at the beginning of March that I would (1) be living in IJburg with my colleagues and (2) have my own instrument, it would have seemed like a fantasy. On the contrary, these times have seemed to bring us even closer than ever to reality; and, for me, the fact of the matter is that I needed to continue my studies, my work, and with the proper instrument. It was/is, in a way, more important to me than food.
I am extremely thankful to the NMF not only for providing me with the instrument I now have but also for their dedication to my needs/wishes during the whole application process. They took it all into consideration and did their best to make sure it was followed through. Especially in these times, my gratitude for the NMF and what they do for musicians/students like myself is immense.’
