Upcoming events: the Lab of Insurrectionary Imagination

Gepubliceerd op

SJDA invites the Lab of Insurrectionary Imagination for a book presentation, a lecture and a workshop between January 25th-27th, 2024.

Isa Fremeaux (she/her) and Jay Jordan (they/them) are infamous for launching a rebel raft regatta to shut down a coal fired power station, turning bikes into machines of disobedience and refusing to be censored by the BP sponsored Tate gallery. They now inhabit the zad of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, 'a territory lost to the republic,' according to the French government, where an airport project was abandoned after 40 years of struggle.

The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination is infamous for launching a rebel raft regatta to shut down a coal fired power station, turning bikes into machines of disobedience and refusing to be censored by the BP sponsored Tate gallery. They now inhabit the zad of Notre-Dame-des-Landes, 'a territory lost to the republic,' according to the French government, where an airport project was abandoned after a 40 years of struggle. In this presentation, they  will take us on a journey exploring how art is an invention and why we should find creative ways to resist, through stories and examples from their own practice as well as those of comrades the world over.

Workshop  "cre(a)ction: between art and activism”
Faced with the urgency of the social and ecological crises, it is clear that everything has to be transformed, and quick. This includes the way we make art and the way we struggle for better worlds. The Laboratory of Insurrectionary Imagination’s (Labofii) workshop explores how we can escape the old forms and rituals of protest to find a space in-between art and activism, where the poetic and the pragmatic fuse into successful moments of rebellion. A space for those who define themselves as artists, activists or neither.
