Pedro (geboren in Madrid) werkt als editor in Nederland, Spanje en Noorwegen. Zijn genomineerde eindwerk bestaat uit de fictiefilm Nothing Stranger, een videodagboek dat hij bijhield tijdens de voorbereiding, en een papieren dagboek.

Nothing stranger vertelt het verhaal van een Chinees-Franse jonge vrouw die teruggaat naar China maar daar constateert dat ze zich daar evenmin thuisvoelt als in Parijs. Het project is een onderzoek naar de psychologische, culturele en maatschappelijke complexiteit van het leven van ‘1.5 generation immigrants’ (wel geboren in het land van hun ouders, maar jong verhuisd en dus elders opgegroeid).

The motivation came from a journey I did to China with a friend who is Chinese but grew up in Europe. I was confronted with the reality of rapid globalization and the impact it has in the way we understand cultural identities. I realized how a big part of the 21st century youth struggles to find an identity, because we are part of a generation that is no longer defined by national borders, but by culture, taste and education.
