The six academies

The academies of the Amsterdam University of the Arts together offer a unique range of arts and culture education in the Netherlands. Within six specialised academies, students are trained to become professional artists, designers, musicians, teachers and heritage specialists. Each academy has its own profile and strong links with the professional field. Discover below which academies the Amsterdam University of the Arts has to offer.

Breitner Academy

The Breitner Academy in Amsterdam offers a higher professional education programme to become a teacher of Visual Arts and Design. You will learn how to make art, how to look at art, and how to transfer your knowledge as a teacher.

Academy of Architecture

The Academy of Architecture offers three master's programmes: architecture, urban design and landscape architecture. You will study and work in practice at the same time. In an international, innovative environment, you will develop into a designer and thinker with an eye for urgent themes such as climate, inclusion and sustainability.

Netherlands Film Academy

The Netherlands Film Academy is the only higher professional education programme in the Netherlands that focuses entirely on film. Here, you will be trained to become a creative and entrepreneurial professional in all film disciplines, from feature films and documentaries to immersive media.

Reinwardt Academy

The Reinwardt Academy is the only institution in the Netherlands offering a Dutch-language bachelor's degree in Cultural Heritage. It also offers an English-language master's programme in Applied Museum & Heritage Studies (AMHS), which prepares students for policy positions in the international heritage field.

Academy for Theatre and Dance

All theatre and dance disciplines are represented at the Academy of Theatre and Dance. You can study here at any level: from preparatory courses and associate degrees to bachelor's and master's degrees.
