Rafael van Crimpen

director Breitner Academy since September 2014

Rafael van Crimpen has been employed as director of the Breitner Academy since 1 September 2014. She studied Management and Organisation at TIAS School for Business and Society and followed a leadership programme at De Baak and Harvard Business School. She originally comes from the healthcare and youth care sectors, and was previously national coordinator of the national child helpline De Kindertelefoon and director of the University of Midwifery Education & Studies at Zuyd University of Applied Science in Maastricht, where she still lives. Her great affinity with visual arts stems from her personal life; she grew up in a family of artists.

Van Crimpen: ‘The social impact of art is enormous: it offers beauty, solace and perspective. Art makes us look at reality in a different way. A modern society cannot do without reflection. And the younger we come into contact with art, the more deeply ingrained it is in our lives and the way in which we view the world around us.’
