Who we are
The Amsterdam Academy of Architecture is one of the leading design programmes in the Netherlands. We offer education and research at master's level in three disciplines: architecture, urban design and landscape architecture (MSc). The academy also provides pre-masters and minors in all disciplines. The (partly) interdisciplinary education we offer is one of the pillars of our educational vision. A unique feature of the academy's design programme is its educational model: the combination of studying and working, the concurrent model. Teaching takes place from Monday to Thursday in the evening and on Fridays during the day.
The academy forms an inspiring, international community of 350 students, about 40 permanent, mostly part-time staff, and 350 guest lecturers annually, from the (international) working field. The academy is part of the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK) and is housed in a listed building in the heart of Amsterdam. You can get to know some of our staff here.
We are building a sustainable future. The academy identifies an urgency: many challenges related to climate change, water issues (rising sea levels and flooding), the circular economy and circular building, and declining biodiversity (to name but a few) are complex spatial tasks. The academy sees it as part of its responsibility to provide future generations of designers in the spatial domain with the necessary knowledge and skills to play a significant role.
What do we offer?
The Academy of Architecture consists of a small team of permanent and temporary staff. Within the academy, we strive for an inclusive learning and working environment that provides the basis for quality, new ideas and creativity. Students, teachers and staff must feel welcome and seen at every level of the organisation and have the space to develop their talents. Both the study programme, the composition of the student and teacher groups and the team pay attention to this. We form a close community that we cherish.
The Academy of Architecture offers a pleasant working environment centrally located in Amsterdam. This position is graded on scale 11 (minimum € 4,361.31 and maximum € 6,114.87) for a full-time (40 hours p/w) appointment. The AHK offers attractive terms of employment following the CAO-HBO, such as a year-end bonus of 8.3%, an ABP pension scheme, a generous holiday scheme, good reimbursement of travel expenses, and study and development opportunities. This is an appointment for one year in the first instance and can be extended with an appointment for a maximum of three years in case of good performance.
A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) is needed upon commencement of employment.
