Lotte Salomons, graduate in Directing Documentaries (BA) at Netherlands Film Academy, AHK / Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2021.

When Chris's mother disappears without a trace, he and his father Toon are both confronted with great sadness. While Chris is able to cry and let his emotions flow freely, Toon cannot bring himself to be vulnerable, and literally swallows his tears. While father Toon literally grows taller with every tear he produces, the distance Chris and his father grows.

By combining watercolours and 3D animation a wonderful and an emotionally sensitive world is created, a very intimate world of grieve and longing. Each frame is composed in such a way that when the film is paused at any given moment, the still image is like a painting or artwork one could watch extensively.

This “eindwerk” or graduation project was one of eleven graduation projects nominated for the AHK Eindwerkprijs 2021, the Graduation Award of the Amsterdam University of the Arts.

On February 10th 2022 AHK / Amsterdam University of the Arts will announce the winners of the AHK Eindwerkprijs 2021: the awards for a master and a bachelor graduation project, and the AHK Graduation Audience Award 2021.
