Andys Skordis wins Toonzetters Prize 2012

Andys Skordis (1983) has been awarded the Buma Toonzetters Prize, an amount of € 10.000,-, for his work The deeper you go...the deeper you go...the deeper you go...deeper you go...you go...you?. The international jury considered it the best Dutch composition of 2011.

Andys Skordis (1983) has been awarded the Buma Toonzetters Prize, an amount of € 10.000,-, for his work The deeper you go...the deeper you go...the deeper you go...deeper you go...you go...you?. The international jury considered it the best Dutch composition of 2011.

The jury, with Lars Petter Hagen (Ultima Oslo Contemporary Music Festival, Norway), Andrew Kurowski (BBC, UK), Tadeusz Wielecki (Warsaw Autumn, Poland) en Lucas Vis (conductor, chairman of the jury, the Netherlands) was unanimous in their choice for Andys’ work: ‘The composer uses a very original treatment of the concept to make the large form,’ ‘It’s a piece made with great craft, that makes impact on the emotional as well as on the psychological,’ and ‘A piece with dramatic quality which pulls the listener in, also reflected in its title.’

With The deeper you go...the deeper you go...the deeper you go...deeper you go...you go...you?, Andys graduated from the master’s programme in composition at the CvA in 2011. The work was premiered on 11 June at the Composers’ Festival 2011 Amsterdam.
