The National Ballet Academy is delighted to announce its alliance with two major dance personalities. Hans van Manen, one of the world’s most influential choreographers and ambassadors of dance, has accepted the title ‘patron’ of the National Ballet Academy. Ted Brandsen, artistic director of the Duth National Ballet, has agreed to take on the role of ‘artistic advisor’ to the National Ballet Academy.
Prior to the premiere of the end of the year production, ‘Dansers van Morgen’ on 27 June at 20:00 hrs., Christopher Powney, artistic director of the National Ballet Academy, will officially announce the recipients of these two special titles.
In its end of the year production, as tribute to their new patron, the Nationale Balletacademie will present Trois Gnossiennes by Hans van Manen, internationally one of his most frequently performed choreographies. The academy is very proud that Van Manen has given permission for performance of this duet.
At the special request of Christopher Powney, the new artistic advisor, Ted Brandsen created the choreography Verge for four students that will enjoy its Dutch premiere during ‘Dansers van Morgen’. After the summer these four dancers will join the new Junior Company of the Dutch National Ballet, the principal launch pad for young ballet dancers in The Netherlands. In Verge each dancer has their ‘own moment’, but in his choreography Brandsen wants particularly to emphasize that dance brings people together. Brandsen on his collaboration with the students: “I got to know these young dancers a lot better during the making of this production.”
