On 19 June at Imagine IC, you will meet the historian and religion expert Crispin Paine (University College Londen, UK). He is known throughout the world for his books Godly Things (2000) and Religious Objects in Museums (2013). Here, he will explore the stories, rituals and emotions of religion that are frequently neglected in the presenting of religious art.
Moderated by ‘wild preacher’ Rikko Voorberg, Professor Paine will share his vision of how we can experience today’s religious heritage in a more complete way. He will respond to live demonstrations of rituals from the Winti tradition and Hindu temples.
Working both in and beyond Amsterdam Zuidoost, Imagine IC documents, presents and discusses contemporary daily life as an addition to the heritage of the city. The June 19 programme is #3 in the intangible Heritage with ‘Pop’ series; alumna Master of Museology Daniëlle Kuiten organized this edition.
In co-operation with the Reinwardt Academy (Amsterdam School of the Arts), we seek stimulating perspectives on old and new traditions, rituals and customs. During our previous events, Saidiya Hartman (Columbia University) spoke on the traditions of slavery remembrance while Paul Moore (Ulster University) described city sounds as a shared experience and document of our time.
