Architecture and Cultural Heritage students present ‘New Clothes’ for Felix Meritis

Students of Architecture at the Academy of Architecture and students of Cultural Heritage at the Reinwardt Academy presented proposals for the Felix’s New Clothes project on 2 July. They closely studied the extraordinary history, future and significance of the organisation Felix Meritis, of which the building on the Keizersgracht is for sale. The architecture students showed their designs to the public by means of scale models and visualisations.

Students of Architecture at the Academy of Architecture and students of Cultural Heritage at the Reinwardt Academy presented proposals for the Felix’s New Clothes project on 2 July. They closely studied the extraordinary history, future and significance of the organisation Felix Meritis, of which the building on the Keizersgracht is for sale. The architecture students showed their designs to the public by means of scale models and visualisations.

Prior the presentations, lector in Cultural Heritage Riemer Knoop discussed the origins of the building and the organisation. Michiel van Iersel, founder of Failed Architecture, showed the timeline of Felix Meritis, which was made with the students. Paul Morel, project leader at Stadsherstel (City Restoration), discussed the current state of the building. Bart Bulter and Lada Hrsak, lecturers at the Academy of Architecture, introduced the assignment the students worked on. Architect Jarrik Ouburg, head of Architecture at the Academy of Architecture, was the moderator of the event.

Collaboration
The project was a collaboration between Felix &Foam, Failed Architecture and Stadsherstel (City Restoration). The two Academies of the Amsterdam School of the Arts collaborated on the project Herbestemming Erfgoed van Amsterdam (Redesignation of the Heritage of Amsterdam) of the Amsterdam Creative Industries Centre of Expertise.
