An international panel of experts has assessed DasArts, the Master of Theatre at de Theaterschool of the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK), all-round as excellent (concerning aspects like vision, learning environment, intended and achieved learning outcomes). According to the panel, DasArts serves as an example both nationally and internationally due to its challenging, innovative and original teaching environment. The study programme produces passionate and innovative theatre makers who receive recognition worldwide.

The experts concluded that the programme exceeds the standards of the international qualifications for a Master’s degree programme by focusing on the ‘making’ and on the artistic inquiries of the students. The programme enables students to excel in their artistic practice and research. The panel considers it much-needed and admirable that DasArts wants to educate students who are able to engage with the rapidly changing professional field, intervening in and contributing to their own sustainable theatre practice.

The panel concluded in their visit to DasArts that the Master’s programme has an excellent environment with first-rate facilities, where small groups of carefully-selected students are constantly in dialogue with each other and with the highly qualified team of teachers, advisers and mentors with an international frame of reference. Giving and receiving constructive and professional feedback plays a central role within the study programme, as well as reflection on developments in the field of theatre and the cultural field in general.

According to the experts, the learning outcomes of the Master can also be called excellent. Students and alumni are particularly satisfied with the cycle of assessment and testing, which require independence, investment, self-reflection and vision. In this way, they are excellently prepared for the practice and that can be seen in the many passionate and innovative theatre makers that DasArts has produced. According to the panel, the most recent essays and graduation projects are also excellent and a product of the thorough methodology and research component of the Master.

On the basis of this panel report, the Master has been accredited by the Accreditation Organisation of the Netherlands and Flanders (NVAO) for the coming six years. The NVAO is an independent accreditation organisation for higher education and gives an expert and objective assessment of the quality of the higher education in the Netherlands and Flanders.
