On 25 August, former director Hans van Beers passed away after a short illness, aged 73. From 2005 to 2011, Hans led the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in his own remarkable and inspiring way, averse to unnecessary bureaucracy, with a great sense of humour and always deeply committed to students and staff.
He was in charge of the development of the new building on the Oosterdokseiland and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam’s move from the Van Baerlestraat, which culminated in the new building’s festive inauguration ceremony by Queen Beatrix on 12 September 2008.
We have lost a remarkable person, who for decades played an important role in the Dutch music scene.
