Nine graduation projects from the Graduates 2016 have been selected for the fifth edition of the AHK Graduation Prize. The jury, chaired by Maarten Kloos (architect, former director of ARCAM), will announce the winner on Monday 21 November. An audience award will also be presented once again.

Nine projects were nominated based on 31 entries:

  • Marinke Eijgenraam (Mime) and Rinse de Jong (Technical Theatre Arts), with Ontheemd (Displaced);
  • Asher Lev (DAS Choreography Master’s programme), with OutOf aiR;
  • Michael van Bergen (Master in Architecture, with Nieuw leven voor de dood (New Life before Death);
  • Charissa Koek (Fine Art in Education), with It's a Selfie;
  • Francesca Clements (Master’s programme in Live Electronics), with Electro Recorder Lab;
  • Dorian de Rijk (Master of Film), with Valerius;
  • Joren Molter (Directing Fiction), with In Kropsdam is iedereen gelukkig (Everyone is happy in Kropsdam);
  • Kaoi Yiu (Cultural Heritage), with Reliqua;
  • Dominique van Egeraat and Lars Deltrap (Master of Education in Arts), with De houtwarming (The wood warming).

The nominated entries will be presented to the jury, who will announce the winner during the awards ceremony. The winner will receive a cash prize of €3,000. In addition, you will shortly be able to vote for the winner of the Audience Award, who will receive a cash prize of €1,000.

How do you compare choreography with an architectural design, or a heritage thesis with a mime performance? The jury are faced with a difficult task each year. Important criteria upon which the jury evaluates the entries, in addition to them having been assessed as very good, include the way in which a connection is made with the outside world in the graduation project, and the relevance of the work for the further development of the profession. The jury also takes into account the difference in level between Bachelor’s and Master’s graduation projects.
