Again prizes for Ardemus Saxophone Quartet and Ebonit Saxophone Quartet

The Ardemus Saxophone Quartet has won first prize at the 13th international competition ‘Ferdo Livadic’ in Samobor, Croatia, one of the most prestigious competitions in Croatia.

The Ardemus Saxophone Quartet (photo) has won first prize at the 13th international competition ‘Ferdo Livadic’ in Samobor, Croatia, one of the most prestigious competitions in Croatia. As a part of the prize they will premier a piece for saxophone quartet and orchestra written for them by one of the most important Croatian composers, Davorin Kempf. They will perform this piece on the next edition of the Samobor Autumn music festival which the competition is a part of.

The Ardemus Saxophone Quartet are: Lisa Wyss, soprano saxophone; Lovro Mercep, alto saxophone; Jenita Veurink, tenor saxophone, and Yo-yo Su, baritone saxophone, all students with Arno Bornkamp and Sven Arne Tepl.

The Ebonit Saxophone Quartet recently won first prize, the Prix Charles Hennen, at the International Orlando Competition for chamber music. Additionally, the quartet won second prize, the ‘premio Banca Popolare di Verona all’eccellenza’, and the special prize 'Cicerone Music & Art’ at the international competition ‘Salieri-Zinetti’ in Italy.

Members of the Ebonit Saxophone Quartet are Simone Müller, Dineke Nauta, Johannes Pfeuffer en Paulina Kulesza, all former students with Arno Bornkamp. This year the quartet graduated from the master’s degree programme in string quartet, offered jointly by the Netherlands String Quartet and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where the members studied with Marc Danel, Sven Arne Tepl en Stefan Metz.
