Boat trip to offshore windmill park

Published on

In 2050 offshore windparks will cover 25% of the Dutch part of the North Sea. That means designing offshore windpark landscapes is a new and interesting subject for students of the Academy of Architecture. Last Sunday, March 31, students visited offshore windark near Egmond aan Zee during a boat trip. This visit is part of the design studio P4 assignment that students will be working on in the coming months. This studio is affiliated with the Future Urban Regions lectorate of lector Eric Frijters.

P4 assignment
For the coast of the province Zeeland a group of windmill parks will arise that collectively will have the size of the peninsula Walcheren. The assignment of this P4 is to transform these windparks into (artificial) ‘islands’ of rich marine life. A landscape that also creates opportunities for food production and recreation.
