We are shocked and deeply saddened by the sudden passing of Louis Lallouette on 13 March. Louis first studied harpsichord and organ at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and in recent years was a piano student at the CvA with Frank Peters.

Frank Peters: “Louis was a remarkably amiable person. Kind, gentle and sincere. Louis looked for meaning in everything he did. For him, the means, the techniques and the skills were just tools to reach for truthfulness. He showed his vulnerable side to only a few people: his search for autonomy, his place in the collective, his right to participate. He granted others a lot of space and he was probably the first to encourage others to overcome personal struggles in their lives or their studies. Many of his fellow students and teachers will miss his warm, human and humorous presence.”

David Kuyken: “I remember a conversation I had with one of the theory teachers. We were discussing the keyboards students and came to Louis. ‘Each of his harmony exercises is a perfect little composition.’ This was characteristic for his attitude towards music: Louis was a student with a broad perspective, both musically and academically, and his musical talent, taste and integrity emerged in all aspects of his music making. In every step in his development he had a well-defined goal in mind and in all his modesty he was very determined.”

We will remember Louis Lallouette as a remarkable and talented person. We will miss him very much. Our thoughts go out to his loved ones.
