Alumnus Soheil Shayesteh has won the Tera de Marez Oyens Prize 2021 for his composition Žhâ. The prize includes an amount of € 2000 and a commission for a composition to be performed by a professional ensemble during the Gaudeamus Music Week of 2022. He performed his work, for kamancheh, live electronics and live video, during a lunchconcert on 10 September in TivoliVredenburg, Utrecht, in the framework of the Gaudeamus Music Week.
Soheil is a graduate of the master programme in Live Electronics at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. In his work he explores the intersections between contemporary classical music, Persian traditional music, experimental and interactive electronics, visual arts and improvisation.
The Tera de Marez Oyens Prize is awarded every two years and is intended to encourage composers who have recently graduated in the Netherlands and to bridge the gap between study and professional practice.
