Janneke van der Wijk to leave as director of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam

Janneke van der Wijk will leave as director of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (CvA) on 1 January 2022 to take up the position of director of the newly established ELJA Foundation. This chariable fund will initiate and finance projects and programs in the field of music, dance and visual arts with the aim of connecting groups of children and young people. This initiative by Ms Blokker-Verwer will be one of the larger charitable funds in the field of the arts in the Netherlands.

Since her appointment as director of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Janneke van der Wijk has put the institute on the map as one of the most leading and innovative at the highest international level. Bert Verveld, chairman of the board of the Amsterdam School of the Arts: 

“Janneke van der Wijk was and is of enormous significance for the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. She has opened the doors of the institute even further and, together with her colleagues, has positioned the CvA as one of the leading conservatories in the world. In the past ten years, many innovations have been realized under her leadership, in education, research and in collaborations with relevant institutes in the music sector. The CvA has an excellent connection with the professional field and is at the heart of cultural and musical life. The CvA produces great musicians and teachers and is systematically very positively evaluated by students, alumni and employees. The CvA is in very good shape. We congratulate Janneke on this wonderful appointment and wish her every success in this next and wonderful step.”

Janneke van der Wijk is very active in the world of the performing arts. Her positions include: vice-chairman of the board of Méér Muziek in de Klas, member of the Supervisory Board of Internationaal Theater Amsterdam and board member at the Prinsengrachtconcert and the Cello Biënnale.
