Nicole McCabe Quintet winner Keep an Eye International Jazz Award 2022

The Nicole McCabe Quintet of the USC Thornton School of Music Los Angeles has won the twelfth edition of the Keep an Eye International Jazz Award on March 30 in a well-attended Bimhuis. The second prize went to NAUSYQA from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

The jury, consisting of Seamus Blake, Bart Suèr, Mijke Loeven, Michelle Kuypers, Frans van Geest and chairman Joachim Junghanss, awarded the Nicole McCabe Quintet the first prize of € 2500. NAUSYQA won € 1500,-.

The incentive prize of €750 went to the ESMUC Jazz Quintet of the Escola Superio de Música de Catalunya, Barcelona. The prize of €500 for the best arrangement of a piece by Charles Mingus was awarded to Giacomo Serino of the Accademia Nazionale del Jazz, Siena. Martí Mitjavila, of the Martí Mitjavila Trio, won the prize for best CvA soloist. Nicole McCabe of the Nicole McCabe Quintet - USC Thornton School of Music Los Angeles won the award for best non-CvA soloist.

The Keep an Eye International Jazz Award is a competition for excellent jazz musicians. This edition featured bands from The School of Jazz and Contemporary Music at the New School, New York; USC Thornton School of Music, Los Angeles; Siena Jazz - Accademia Nazionale del Jazz, Siena; Escola Superio de Música de Catalunya, Barcelona and the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.
