Geneco Fair Practice Award 2022 for Toonzetters

Published on

Toonzetters, a multimedia project by fourth-year composition student Primo Ish-Hurwitz, recently won the Nieuw Geneco Fair Practice Award. This award praises good commissioning practices in new music. The New Geneco Fair Practice Award jury called Toonzetters a dream project. 'An example of joining forces between creators, producers and programmers. A way of putting young makers in the spotlight in a substantial and sustainable way. Fair practice by focusing on the future.'

During his second year at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Primo started Toonzetters. With this project, he wants to display the sound of the newest generation of composers and its diversity. The project combines new compositions by students and alumni of the CvA and KC, with video portraits of the composers. The pieces are performed by CvA students and alumni Shane van Neerden (piano), Ramon van Engelenhoven (piano), Agostinho Sequeira (percussion) and Arjan Jongsma (percussion). The compositions of the Toonzetters project can be heard at concerts all over the Netherlands this autumn, and they will release an album on 26 January.
