Wim Henderickx passed away

Published on

We are deeply shocked and saddened by the news that our colleague Wim Henderickx  (Lier, 1962), principal subject teacher of Composition,  died suddenly yesterday, Sunday 18 December.

Wim was a distinguished composer, one of the most important of his generation. His music has been performed by renowned orchestras, soloists and ensembles and has won awards both at home and abroad. He drew inspiration from other cultures and electronics also played a major role in his work. This year, his opera De bekeerlinge, based on the novel by Stefan Hertmans, received critical acclaim.

Wim also taught at the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp. In addition, he was head teacher of the annual SoundMine summer composition course for young composers at Musica. Training new generations of composers was close to his heart. Students and co-workers at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam will remember him as an inspiring and energetic teacher and colleague.

We will miss Wim terribly. We wish his family and friends much strength in coping with this  great loss.
