Henk Pijlman and Wilma de Koning new members Supervisory Board AHK

We are pleased to announce that Henk Pijlman and Wilma de Koning have been appointed to the Supervisory Board of the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) on 6 March 2023. Henk Pijlman joins the Supervisory Board with immediate effect, Wilma de Koning joins with effect from 1 September 2023. Both new board members have a long track record in higher education.

About Henk Pijlman
Henk Pijlman joined the Executive Board of Hanze UAS in 2000 and was appointed chairman in 2004, a position he held until 2021. Henk Pijlman was also chairman of the working group on practice-based research, which in 2017 issued advice on the quality of practice-based research and lectureships in universities of applied sciences. He was also, among other things, chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Noord Nederlands Orkest, member of the Supervisory Board of the Groninger Museum and member of the Supervisory Board of Eurosonic-Noorderslag. He is currently a senator in the Senate for D66.

About Wilma de Koning
Wilma de Koning has been director of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) since July 2021, where her responsibilities include the portfolios sustainability, integral safety and leadership. Wilma de Koning is a business economist and accountant. From 2013 to 2021, she was vice-chair of the Executive Board of Radboud University Nijmegen and from 2009 to December 2013 a member of the Executive Board of Fontys Hogescholen. Previously, she was director at the Faculty of Economics and Business Studies at Tilburg University.

In addition to her work at the KNAW, Wilma de Koning's positions include member of the membership council of ICT cooperative SURF, and member of the Advisory Board of the International Science Film Festival Nijmegen, a festival aimed at presenting science in an accessible and inspiring way to a wide audience. She is also familiar with arts education: from 2014 to 2020, she was a member of the supervisory board of university of the arts ArtEZ.

Wilma de Koning on her appointment: "It is quite an honour to become supervisor of the AHK. A wonderful university where many young people get the chance to be trained for the field of art, culture and heritage. I think it's great that I can make a small contribution to this".

Reaction of the Supervisory Board
Jan Anthonie Bruijn, chairman of the Supervisory Board, on the appointments: "We are extremely happy with these two new members joining the Supervisory Board. Both members have both managerial and supervisory experience and with their broad experience in higher education and their involvement in various cultural and social organisations, they are worthy successors to Paul van Maanen and Tamara Monzón, who will leave the board after the expiry of their term of office."
