The third edition of the CoECI Society 5.0 Festival will take place on October 9 (evening) and 10 (daytime). The event is packed with inspiring keynotes, interactive workshops, and ample networking opportunities, all aimed at exploring the future of humanity and technology under the theme of Transforming the Social Fabric. The Society 5.0 Festival is organised by the Centre of Expertise Creative Innovation (CoECI), a collaboration between the AHK, the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences, the Rietveld Academie, and InHolland University of Applied Sciences. As a CoECI partner, the AHK will contribute with engaging sessions, including a workshop by Marina Orlova (ATD alumna) and an installation by Caroline Geiser (fourth-year Directing student). The Festival is free for employees and students of the four universities in the CoECI network, they can claim a free ticket (limited availability).
The Society 5.0 Festival explores how we can build a more sustainable, transparent, and inclusive society, with deep and meaningful human connections at its core. But how can we achieve such a profound transformation? By shifting the focus from economic and technological growth to the well-being of both human and non-human life. This shift will be explored at the festival through discussions led by leading scientists, designers, and artists.
Highlights of the programme include:
- Marleen Stikker (Waag Futurelab) will kick off the event with an inspiring talk on commons and citizen initiatives.
- Maria Farrell, internet pioneer, will deliver a keynote titled "Let’s Rewild the Internet," advocating for a fairer and more transparent online world.
- Miriam Rasch, author of Luisteroefeningen, will emphasise the importance of genuine listening and seeking connection in times of polarisation.
In addition to these keynotes, participants can join case studies, small-scale workshops, and artistic installations. A Hackathon for students, organised by VPRO Medialab, will also take place, focused on designing energy-efficient and transparent digital media with AI.
