On Thursday, 9 January, Amit Gur, CvA alumnus and teacher, obtained his doctorate from the University of Antwerp for his research on ‘Form and Material in Visual and Auditory Perception’. Apart from the traditional public defense on such occasions (preceded by a pre-defense behind closed doors a few weeks earlier), a band of students and alumni from the CvA gave a concert of works by Amit for which the notion of musical texture has been the inspiration.
A four-year grant from FWO, the Research Foundation Flanders, enabled Amit to complete this research under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Erik Myin (University of Antwerp) and our late colleague Wim Henderickx (Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Royal Conservatoire Antwerp).
