The Kunsten Monitor 2024, the national survey of recent graduates from arts universities, once again shows positive results for alumni of the Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK). The findings confirm that our graduates make a strong start in the labor market: their work aligns well with their education, the average hourly wage is increasing, and they look back on their studies with satisfaction.
More than 300 recent graduates from our academies — including the Academy of Architecture, Academy of Theatre and Dance, Breitner Academy, Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Netherlands Film Academy, and Reinwardt Academy — participated in the survey, which was conducted in the fall of 2024. With a response rate of 40%, the monitor provides valuable insights into the professional field of our alumni.
High Appreciation for the Education
AHK alumni are generally very pleased with their education. As many as 82% would choose the same program again. The content is also highly rated: 80% find the education up-to-date and practice-oriented, and 74% say they are satisfied with the level of the programme.
Strong Connection to Professional Practice
There is a strong connection to professional practice. 93% of alumni work entirely or partially within their field, 82% experience a good match between their job and education, and 80% are satisfied with their current position. Compared to alumni from other arts universities, AHK alumni are more positive about their preparation for the job market and about housing during their studies.
Many Self-Employed Graduates; Business Skills Remain a Focus Area
Job prospects remain favorable. The unemployment rate among AHK alumni is low at 2.7%, and the average gross hourly wage has increased for the fourth consecutive year, now at €19.23. Notably, half of the graduates work as freelancers. As such, the business side of the profession and the preparation for starting out as a professional remain structural points of attention for the programmes.
