Inclusive learning and working environment

How do we create an inclusive learning and working environment in the AHK? This module is for all lecturers at the AHK who want to work on, and learn about, a more inclusive working and learning environment. This is a topical issue in which lecturers play an important role. You will develop skills and build your self-confidence to facilitate inclusive learning and working.

After completing this module:

You will have gained new insights and/or sharpened existing ones regarding the creation of an inclusive working and learning environment, with which you can more strongly support your own vision;
You will have analysed your own working practice and connected it to the methodologies and theoretical frameworks provided;
You have practical tools that you can immediately apply in your own professional practice;
You have considered your own work practice and that of your colleagues from various perspectives and learned from them.
You will have a valuable network of colleagues within the AHK who also deal with issues of social safety and inclusiveness.

Practical information

This training is for all teachers with an appointment with the AHK and an active teaching practice, so that you can immediately apply the knowledge you have gained;

This module is mandatory for obtaining the Basic Didactic Competence qualification (BDB).

The study load is 30 hours including self-study.

The learning format of the training is blended, group teaching on location alternating with individual discussions, collaboration and self-study. The language of instruction is both Dutch and English.

The group consists of up to 15 people and includes AHK teachers from different academies and programmes.

Content of the module

We start plenary by getting acquainted and sharing the learning questions at play in your working practice regarding inclusion.

You then attend two training sessions (sessions) of the Inclusivity Pathway Training* (IPT) with the whole group. The IPT is specifically designed to help people develop and strengthen skills to facilitate inclusive learning and working environments. That environment can be one-to-one, in a group, in the workplace, in person or in the classroom. The activities used during the training come from different disciplines: theatre, cognitive psychology, psychodrama, etc. Find out more about IPT here: https://www.inclusivitypathwaytraining.com/

You will then work on an assignment yourself in which you connect your own teaching practice to elements of the IPT.

In the group, you find a colleague/ buddy and visit one of each other's lessons. You discuss your findings with each other afterwards.

Based on the IPT training, you have developed your own exercise that you can perform in your own work environment. In this session, we meet with all participants to perform the exercises and reflect on them. This way, you work on expanding your toolbox to be able to work inclusively.

During this conversation, your own questions, learning outcomes and findings will guide you. The conversation is with the module's teacher. The conversation takes place online and lasts a maximum of one hour.

You submit a digital dossier based on the activities you did during the module.

Basic Teaching Qualification (BTQ)

This module is a compulsory component for all teachers with an appointment of 0.4 FTE or more in order to obtain their Basic Teaching Qualification (BTQ). Do you already hold a BTQ?
