WWOW! Wicked Ways Of Watching: A research into effective and unconventional working methods for art analysis and art appreciation in the classroom and on location.

To explore, deepen and broaden your view of art requires open attention and curiosity. This, especially in an untrained viewer, is far from always present. A more surprising and activating approach can help. In this research, various activating contemplation methods and working forms will be developed and tested that can challenge people to approach and experience art in a stimulating way. The results will lead to a theoretically based publication with viewing fitness for, in particular, contemporary art. An artistic collection of tools and exercises for contemplation, analysis, description, meaning-making, interpretation, vision formation and exchange.

 

Biography
Oskar Maarleveld is a visual artist, designer, musician and art teacher at the Montessorilyceum and the Breitner Academy in Amsterdam. Among other things, Oskar is one of the driving forces behind Studio Breitner, the Breitner Academy's art talent class for students from various secondary schools. In his artistic practice and in his role as a teacher, he looks for ways to create meaningful and unexpected connections. Oskar was part of the research group on altermodern art education in 2012 and in 2014 conducted research on a new and more visual reflection method for practical visual work in secondary education. From 2012 to 2020, he was a member of the construction group exams Tehatex / art for Havo at CITO Arnhem.
