Pre-conference seminar ISME special music education and music therapy

The mission of the ISME Special Music Education and Music Therapy is to contribute to every area of practice that explores the relationship between music, education, health, and well-being by promoting interdisciplinary dialogue and exchange between practitioners and researchers. The research group is a member of the ISME Music in Special Education and Music Therapy Commission, which organized the pre-conference seminar ISME Special Music Education and Music Therapy in July 2024 in Helsinki.

Inclusive composing - Melissa Bremmer

In 2018, the Conservatorium of Amsterdam invited Drake Music (London), and in 2021 Drake Music Scotland, to share their experience, knowledge, and skills on inclusive music education. As an ongoing learning process, the Conservatory of Amsterdam wants to expand its knowledge with new knowledge and skills regarding composing for inclusive ensembles, which often includes the process of co-creating with ensemble members. Do students feel more confident and equipped to co-create music with an inclusive music ensemble? What were the experiences of the Disabled musicians? The discussion also covered how new knowledge and insights are being integrated into the curriculum of the Conservatorium of Amsterdam.

The Multi-Modal Music-Bubble: Multi-modal Music Teaching as an Embodied Strategy for Children with a Disability - Vincent Lamers & Iris van Doggenaar

The workshop by Vincent Lamers and Iris van Doggenaar focuses on music education for children with a Disability. These students often do not respond to traditional musical activities such as singing or playing instruments. The aim of this workshop was to explain and experience this multimodal approach in music education, going from theory to practice, and from practice to theory
