In 2008, Bart Schneemann had a period as AIR at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He focused entirely on the inventiveness of the participating students, who came from a wide range of musical disciplines, including jazz, pop, and classical. He sought to inspire them and help them develop innovative and original ideas for concert performances.

The result was the Wilde Bloesem Festival. It was a celebration of the huge potential both of the new Conservatorium building and of collaborations between dedicated musicians collaborating across genre and discipline boundaries.

The Wilde Bloesem DVD that Darren Carter made during Bart Schneemann’s period as Artist in Residence at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam is a splendid reflection of Bart’s desire to challenge the concept practice of the participating students. He inspired them to develop remarkable ideas for concert performance in collaboration with musicians across the full range of musical traditions the Conservatorium is proud to offer.
