ARIAS is the Amsterdam Research Institute of the Arts and Sciences, where scientific and artistic research meet in collaborative projects. In addition to a platform for research, ARIAS wants to develop into an international center for knowledge and debate about research in the arts.
In line with the theme "Art, research and innovation in the 21st century" of the Dutch National Research Agenda, ARIAS has formulated three focus areas:
- Art, research and education about the role of artistic research as an indispensable source for new applications of knowledge development, learning and reflection;
- Art, culture and health about the application of creative technologies in health care and prevention and the ethical and philosophical issues related to it;
- The city as a research field, the display of artists and the creation of innovative concepts that contribute to the liveability and attractiveness of an increasingly cosmopolitan city such as Amsterdam.
ARIAS is a collaboration between the University of Amsterdam (UvA), the Amsterdam School of the Arts (AHK), the VU University Amsterdam, the Gerrit Rietveld Academy and the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) and enables intersections, encounters and collaborations between artistic research and research in the humanities, social sciences and the natural sciences.
