AIR Leanne Simpson

From 14-26 April Leanne Betasamosake Simpson will visit Amsterdam. She has been invited as Artist in Residence by the Academy for Theatre and Dance lectorate. Leanne Betasamosake Simpson is a renowned Michi Saagiig Nishnaabeg writer, musician, academic and activist who has been widely recognized as one of the most compelling Indigenous voices of her generation. Her work breaks open the intersections between politics, story and song—bringing audiences into a rich and layered world of sound, light, and sovereign creativity. She is a status member of Alderville First Nation in Ontario, Canada.
The lectorate for Social Justice and Diversity in the Arts invited Ayesha Ghanchi to engage with Simpson’s work. In the past weeks we explored ‘Dancing on our Turtle’s Back’ and ‘This Accident of Being Lost’.
We are also organizing Leanne’s Theory of Ice concert on the 25th of April at Tolhuistuin. Chihiro Geuzebroek will moderate a conversation with Leanne. Please use the AHKAIR promocode to get E5 discount on a regular ticket.
The full programme of Leanne’s residency can be found here.
Many thanks to Paulina Trejo Mendez, who made the beautiful collage for the campaign of Leanne’s visit.
