Verloren Onschuld

On May 14, we organised a meeting about “The Dutch childcare benefits scandal” at Buurthuis de Bol. The evening was opened by Fatima el Bouchaibi, chairwoman of the de Bol foundation. For her and many residents in Amsterdam North, The Dutch childcare benefits scandal is a topic that still plays a role in their lives every day.

For Fatima, this evening was a special moment. "It is one of the most impressive evenings we have organised at de Bol. For me, it was the first time I publicly shared my own story. It felt familiar and safe to do that alongside Yuli and Fenneke. We could look each other in the eyes. The evening was also very moving."

Fatima recently shared her story in other places as well, during a meeting with the alderman of the municipality of Amsterdam and with people from the House of Representatives and Royal Relations. "These are moments when you are still conveying the suffering. The conversation at de Bol was so special because all emotions were allowed to be present. I didn't need to convince anyone because others had experienced it too.I am glad we could provide this space from de Bol."

Meanwhile, the sequel to "Verloren Onschuld" has premiered. "Lost Youth" is about the children and young adults affected. Especially for AHK students, the SJDA will also organize a program with Fenneke Wekker, focusing on the creation process of both pieces and how to do this in an ethical way. Interested?
