The Amsterdam University of the Arts (AHK) does not own student accommodation but works with housing provider Lieven de Key to make a limited number of student rooms available for international students. For the academic year 2026–2027, 30 student rooms are available. Priority is given to first-year students under the age of 21. The rooms are offered on a short-staycontract for a fixed period of one year and are intended as temporary accommodation at the start of your studies. The rooms are located at Bijltjespad and Weesperstraat.

Application Timeline

The housing procedure takes place earlier in the year to give applicants clarity before the summer period.

Selection Procedure

Because the number of rooms is limited, allocation takes place through a lottery system. This means all eligible applicants have an equal chance of being selected.
If selected:

• Applicant details will be shared with Lieven de Key.
• Lieven de Key will send a room offer and provide further instructions.
• A short response period applies.

Please note that it is not possible to change the room or location offered. If no response is received within the given deadline, the room may be offered to another student. Applicants are advised to check their inbox and spam folder regularly.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must:

• be first-year students,
• be 21 years of age or younger,
• have international student status, and
• have a valid student number.

Room Details

• Room sizes:
  • Room 1: 4.24 × 2.92 m
  • Room 2: 3.76 × 3.08 m
• Rent is between €550 – €680 per month
• Facilities: shared kitchen and bathroom, with students jointly responsible for keeping these areas clean.
   

Locations:

• Bijltjespad: shared with approximately 10–12 residents
• Weesperstraat: shared with approximately 17 residents

Important Information

Please note:

• Practising musical instruments is not permitted in these rooms.
• A two-month rent deposit is required.
• The housing agreement is issued by Lieven de Key.
• Contracts have a fixed duration of one year.
• Rent must be paid for the entire rental period agreed upon.
• Contracts cannot be shortened or extended, and no rent reduction applies in case of late arrival or early departure.
• After the contract ends, students must arrange alternative housing independently. The room will be reassigned to a new incoming international student.
