Summer Jazz Workshop audition requirements
* All jazz applicants are required to submit MP3 files (preferably) to cva-summerjazz@ahk.nl together with the application form for prescreening purposes. It is not required that the format be a professional or studio recording, but the sound quality must be as good as possible
* CD’s & DVD’s are also acceptable (drummers are advised to submit video recording)
* Repertoire for the prescreening recording must demonstrate the ability to improvise and play with a rhythm section, using a live band or play-along recording.
Wind Instruments
1. Required piece (must be first on the recording): the 12-Bar Blues piece, 
Billie's Bounce in medium tempo (minimum of four improvised choruses).
2. Perform three other selections (one must be a ballad) in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos (minimum of two improvised choruses for each selection).
Lead Trumpet, Bass Trombone, and Baritone Saxophone (improvisation optional):
Play an ensemble excerpt that demonstrates your proficiency (style, technique, range - high for trumpet; low for bass trombone and baritone).
Piano/Keyboards
1. Required piece (must be first on the recording): the 12-Bar Blues piece, Billie's Bounce in medium tempo (minimum of four improvised choruses).
2. Perform three other selections (one must be a ballad) in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos (minimum of two improvised choruses for each selection).
Note: Please be sure to demonstrate 'comping' behind a soloist on at least one of these selections.
3. Demonstrate comping in latin (montuno) & funk.
Double Bass, Electric Bass
1. Required piece (must be first on the recording): the 12-Bar Blues piece, Billie's Bounce in medium tempo (minimum of four improvised choruses).
2. Perform three other selections (one must be a ballad) in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos (minimum of two improvised choruses for each selection).
3. Demonstrate at least four choruses of walking bass lines on Billie's Bounce and two choruses of walking bass lines on each stylistic selection.
4. Demonstrate ostinato bass lines in latin & funk.
Drums/Percussion
1. Required piece (must be first on the recording): the 12-Bar Blues piece, Billie's Bounce in medium tempo. Must include playing time for at least four choruses behind a soloist and at least two choruses of drum solo.
2. Perform a medium tempo selection or a ballad demonstrating ability to perform with brushes.
3. Perform two additional selections in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos. Each selection must include at least three choruses of playing time behind a soloist and at least two choruses of trading fours, eights, and/or soloing.
4. If possible, include a 2-5 minute video/audio segment playing time with a big band (not soloing).
5. Demonstrate time/groove in latin and funk styles (at least two minutes in each style).
Guitar
1. Required piece (must be first on the recording): the 12-Bar Blues piece, Billie's Bounce in medium tempo (minimum of four improvised choruses).
2. Perform three other selections (one must be a ballad) in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos (minimum of two improvised choruses for each selection).
Note: Please be sure to demonstrate 'comping' behind a soloist on at least one of these selections.
3. Demonstrate comping in rhythm guitar style (Freddie Green).
4. Demonstrate comping latin & funk styles.
Vibraphone
1. Required piece (must be first on the recording): the 12-Bar Blues piece, Billie's Bounce in medium tempo (minimum of four improvised choruses).
2. Perform three other selections (one must be a ballad) in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos (minimum of two improvised choruses for each selection).
Note: Please be sure to demonstrate 'comping'behind a soloist on at least one of these selections.
3. Demonstrate comping latin & funk styles.
Jazz Violin, Viola, Cello
1. Required piece (must be first on the recording): the 12-Bar Blues piece, Billie's Bounce in medium tempo (minimum of four improvised choruses).
2. Perform three other selections (one must be a ballad) in different jazz styles, moods, and tempos (minimum of two improvised choruses for each selection).
