What makes an architect according to Jan-Richard Kikkert?

Published on

Last week Jan-Richard Kikkert, head of Architecture at the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture, published his acceptance speech.

In his acceptance speech, Jan-Richard Kikkert gives a personal look at his work as an architect and as a teacher. He alternates reflections about the profession and his colleagues with anecdotes and hilarious travel stories. The physical experience of architecture is central to his argument. Photos of his many visits to well-known and lesser-known buildings, whether or not in a tour group with students, illustrate the text. The whole is the infectious story of an enthusiastic teacher.
