The Conservatorium van Amsterdam proudly welcomes Maria van Nieukerken as principal subject teacher of choral conducting. She will succeed Jos van Veldhoven, who will retire in early November.
‘We are very happy to have Maria on board,’ says Wim Vos, Associate Director and Head of Classical Music a.i. of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. ‘With her versatility, professional expertise and creative approach she is a fantastic asset to the conservatory and the ideal person to build on what Jos has accomplished in the principal subject of choral conducting. We are looking forward to working with her.’

Maria van Nieukerken is conductor and artistic director of the professional chamber choir PA'dam, Toonkunst Rotterdam and Kamerkoor Toonkunst Rotterdam. With PA'dam she initiates special productions ranging from classical repertoire in refreshing new settings to projects with heavy-metal bands such as Epica. She also works as assistant conductor and choirmaster with Collegium Vocale Gent, the Groot Omroepkoor and the Flemish Radio Choir, among others. She has performed throughout Europe with a variety of companies and worked with orchestras such as Collegium Delft, Florilegium Musicum, Vaasa City Orchestra, International Bigband Rotterdam and Symfonieorkest Rijnmond.
