Every year, we really look forward to our end-of-year performance Dancers of Tomorrow, in which all our pupils and students get the opportunity to perform on the big stage of Dutch National Opera & Ballet. The current government measures for opening theatres are unfortunately so strict that this year’s performance cannot take place. We have therefore found an alternative way to round off our school year. At the moment, all the classes are working on some great online projects, led by various choreographers, which will result on 26 June in a festive online edition of Dancers of Tomorrow.
Each class is working with their own choreographer, and the different projects will be shown – by invitation – to parents and associates of the Dutch National Ballet Academy on 26 June.
NBA 1 – Iva Lešić (who makes a major contribution to our end-of-year production every year) will enter into a creative process with this class, in a project that will be partly rehearsed at school and partly take place online;
NBA 2 - Lilja Björk Hermannsdóttir is joining forces with our own pianist Elizabeth Ford to create a piece for this class;
NBA 3 and 4 - Wubkje Kuindersma (known to many pupils through her contribution to Dancers of Tomorrow in 2019) is entering into an online creative process with these classes, in collaboration with classes of the same age group on the dancers’ course at the Royal Conservatoire, in The Hague;
NBA 5, 6 and 7 - Peter Leung (Creative Associate with Dutch National Ballet) will choreograph an online work with the pupils of these three classes;
BA 1 - Lia Witjes-Poole is responsible for the project for this class, which involves an online collaboration with students of Arts Umbrella Canada (with whom they would have shared the stage in the performance that was originally planned – so a nice alternative!);
BA 2/3 and the guest students – Led by choreographer Didy Veldman, they were the first to start an online project, which also involves students from The Royal Ballet School, l’École de Danse de l’Opéra national de Paris, the Royal Danish Ballet School, Canada’s National Ballet School and San Francisco Ballet School. At the moment, the 120 dancers from the six ballet schools taking part in this project are spread across 23 different countries and 13 time zones. See the separate news item about this project.
