MAAT Saxophone Quartet has won the Dutch Classical Talent Award 2022 on 12 June. The prize consists of an amount of € 10.000,-. The professional jury was full of praise for the ensemble: 'The quartet opts for an authentic, amazing presentation with a groundbreaking choice of pieces. Musically, their playing blends together perfectly, but they are still recognisable as individuals.’
The members of MAAT Saxophone Quartet are Daniel Ferreira, soprano saxophone; Catarina Gomes, alto saxophone; Pedro Silva, tenor saxophone, and Mafalda Oliveira, baritone saxophone, all four students of Arno Bornkamp and Willem van Merwijk’s successful saxophone class.
Among the finalists were also clarinettist Jelmer de Moed and violinist Hawijch Elders, both (former) CvA students.
Dutch Classical Talent Tour & Award
Dutch Classical Talent – Tour & Award is an 18-month talent development programme for young classical musicians who are studying al of have graduated from one of the Dutch conservatories. A professional jury selects four soloists, duo’s or ensembles from two audition rounds. These four finalists then go through a coaching programme in which there is plenty of room for personal and musical development, followed by a tour of twelve concert halls in the Netherlands and a final in which the they compete for the DCT Award and the Audience Award.
