Ramin Amin Tafreshi, graduate in Composition (BA) at Conservatorium van Amsterdam, AHK / Amsterdam University of the Arts in 2021.
Ramin Amin Tafreshi's graduation project Saoshyant is a short opera for three singers, a vocal ensemble, a chamber ensemble and electronica. Tafreshi adapted the myth of Zahhak, a famous Persian narration from the Shahnama. In order to survive himself, King Zahhak must ensure that the two black snakes that grow on his shoulders are fed the brains of two men every night. Saoshyant means as much as the savior, the one who will make good triumph over evil. Also a savior cannot escape making complex choices.
This “eindwerk” or graduation project was one of eleven graduation projects nominated for the AHK Eindwerkprijs 2021, the Graduation Award of the Amsterdam University of the Arts.
